FACING DEATH
During one of the violent attacks at Gwoza a little boy watched his elder brother and Father being killed. His mother was deeply pained. Her husband was her pillar and Loosing two loved ones in a day was shocking for her but there was no time to mourn the dead and she knew that the only way to stay alive was to flee their home.
Now a widow and faced with the responsibility to take care of her little son and his elder sister, she made up her mind to keep them safe.
They had to travel on foot hoping that they would find their way to a safer town.It was a tiring journey but they were not alone.Several others who survived the attack were also on this journey of a uncertainty. After walking a long distance It seemed as though there was hope for them until there was another attack that claimed the lives of many and separated the little boy and his sister from their Dear Mother forever.
Eventually they arrived Maiduguri along side a few others who were lucky to survive the several attacks. By the time they arrived Maiduguri the little boy who was just five years old stopped talking. A boy who was once cheerful, happy and could talk did not only become an orphan but truamatized and unable to speak to this day.
A child deserves a safe environment to play, learn and grow but how can this be achieved. This is just one story but there are many more unheard, untold, Mahatma Gandhi said if we wish to create lasting peace we must begin with the Children.

DeleteWow that's quite sad. I hope this child is going through some therapy. What about the sister? Anything from her?
ReplyDeleteQuite painful. I believe the boy can be salvaged if he has some sessions with a psychologist.
