Stories from the Sahara Desert

   When I learnt there would be a tour organized by writers mind forum Maiduguri,I was excited and jumped at the opportunity. You are probably wondering how it would feel like to go on  a tour in a place like Borno?   I expected it would be a fun adventure The tour was one of a kind , There were unexpected twist and turns but  that was what made it really fun.Imagine being in a bus with a bunch of poets,writters, spoken words artists, script writers , journalists and avidreaders, there were Some  spontaneous poem, Stories, history of the  marghi people,  Kanuri people and even  stories on how the kanuri people are linked to the Yoruba people of Nigeria.  It was a fun and informative tour. We had limited time so we had to pick two places to visit for the day.We visited  the two museums in Borno.The National Museum, which is directly under the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, and the Borno State Museum, which is under the Borno State Ministry of Information and Culture. I was curious to know what was awaiting me but trying to picture what lies ahead was not really helping so I relaxed and  looked forward to a good time. climbing the stairs,I said to myself.this it ! Unfortunately pictures are not enough   to express the incredible feeling and the quality  of  the painting we saw.Being faced with a the hand made paintings was really heartwarming.     Internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno state  come to mind each time I think of the recent pandemic COVID 19. How much of social distancing can they practice? While you try to picture it  you should bear in mind that they live in camps  and are quiet a number.Today I would like to share a  really short story on this virus,.   A true story on COVID 19 in Maidugur i Borno state Nigeria     Halima is a Humanitarian worker working with an NGO in Maiduguri, going out to the field would have been like every other day but with all the news on COVID 19, today was different. She had to think of the IDPs who needed a lot of awareness on the Corona virus disease (COVID 19) and also her health. To prevent COVID 19 , there is need  to educate the IDPs on the virus and precautionary measures to avoid it.And someone has to do this, Halima and her team needed to do this.
